Joomla 4, gives you the ability to force your users to reset their passwords the next time they login. This can be useful for security reasons.
You can do this for one or several users:
Force a user
Go to Users > Manage and select the relevant user. In their profile settings, stay in the first tab and scroll down a bit to find the Force Password Reset field, switch it to yes.
Function accessible from the user's settings
Save and close.
The next time the user logs in, he/she will be forced to change his/her password before being able to log in.
Forcing several users
To act on several users, go to Users > Manage. Select all users (or the group of users) using the filters you have available. Once all users are selected, click on Action > Batch .
Change the last field Force password reset to yes. All your selected users will be required to change their passwords the next time they log in.
A note is written under the names of those who will need to change their passwords the next time they log in.
Example of a user who will need to be reset
Forcing users to change their passwords from time to time is important to improve security. The user will very rarely make the effort. You can also force them to have a more complicated password. These changes may be burdensome for your users, but they help to make the user and the site more secure.
